The figures are good news for that South Australian Tourism Commission, which has needed to contend with the sacking of its leader and the embarrassment from the failed outsourcing of the SA Travel Centre.
Tourism Minister Gail Gago said domestic visitors to SA were up 8 percent when compared with 3.4 percent nationally.

"Any development in domestic tourism is patchy," he explained. He criticised SA's performance on the international market, saying we attracted fewer international visitors than any mainland state this past year.
In 2011, international visitor expenditure increased nationally by 3.7 per cent to $18.3 billion, compared with the previous year.
Tourism Australia managing director Andrew McEvoy said: "SA has already established trouble of late so it's great to see them bouncing back so strongly with such impressive domestic figures.
"SATC but continues to be going hard in the domestic marketing."
