DANBURY -- Temperatures are expected to hover around freezing Saturday,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but that won't stop participants of the Sr. Annual Danbury Dip for Charity from plunging into icy Lake Kenosia.
The annual event,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which is held in memory of dip founder Jack Knapp Sr., will raise money for 10 charities, including Newtown Underwater Search and Rescue, ,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the ,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and Hanahoe Children's Clinic in Danbury.
A crew with chain saws will cut through 12 inches of ice on Lake Kenosia Friday to create a dip hole of 40 feet by 15 feet, Showah said. Last year,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the lake had 4 inches of ice.
"The water is cold no matter what the temperature is,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," , Moose Lodge governor, said.
Knapp founded the event in 2004 with fellow Moose Mike Young after the two took part in a winter "dip" with a Moose Lodge in Guilford. This is the second year without Knapp,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who died Nov. 3,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 2005, at age 70.
"Jack was a big supporter of this, and he was able to get people to come out and participate. We are trying to step into his shoes," Saumell said.
About 20 people participated last year.
Participants must be at least 18 years old,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and emergency medical workers will check their blood pressure before the event starts. Refreshments will be available.
