Before Sunset
It had been my cousin's wedding reception today. My mom,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], brother and that i visited the nearby hair salon, that also happens to be awesome AND cheaper compared to awesome hair salons in Singapore (even cheaper compared to crap expensive place I visited in Pacific Plaza), AND I visit practically every time I go to Taipei. My stylist was this fat dude who had been very meticulous in cutting - well,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], trimming - my hair. And as always, the hair-washing was fun: the chair was massaging my ass and the head massage was good.
My cousin's wedding reception is at a hall that exclusively does weddings. My youngest uncle drove us there - to Banqiao - and also the place looked a lot better than what I was expecting. It wasn't a deluxe 4-star hotel, but it also wasn't some shabby,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], cheap-looking building that I been on mind.
It had been my second wedding reception in Taiwan. I personally barely remember the first,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], or whose it had been; it had been the year I returned alone with my dad and that he dragged me along 'cause my grandparents didn't want me wandering around the dangerous streets of Taipei by myself. For my cousin's wedding, there is a pretty female emcee and she or he and her husband made two entrances. The very first,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], of course, is at the standard white dress. The mother and father were invited on stage and um, I do not really remember why these were there. People clapped, food was served, I received my own vegetarian dishes and ate the first salad I'd ever eaten in my life. When I saw that my first dish was a salad I had been tempted to create it for my mom, but I put my game face on and used it. Then i proceeded to complete it. The sauce was some type of wasabi sauce also it was surprisingly yummy.
Yesterday at Tony Roma's I ate a few of the caesar salad that came with my brother's steak so perhaps I've cured my aversion to salads and raw vegetables,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Anyway, more food was served,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and the bride and groom made a second entrance:
This time they invited the girl who introduced the girl and guy to each other on stage. She hugged my cousin and everybody clapped. It was quite cute. Even though the bride and groom were walking in,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], packets of what I guessed were candy were dropped from the ceiling which made the children all excited. I had been quite excited too but they neglected the tables at the side of the hall,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], so no goodie surprises for me.
The meals was not too bad,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but not memorable. Basically hadn't been taking pictures of all the food (for Wei Chuen's benefit - took pictures of all things after he inquired about basically took a picture from the cute as hell beagle in the airport which was sniffing luggages for fruits and meat-products. I did not think of doing this,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], sadly) I wouldn't remember things i ate. But it wasn't disastrous. And that i don't think wedding food tastes all that great anyway therefore it was serviceable.
My cousin looked pretty though, and her husband is quite good-looking. The obligatory picture which i demanded as guests were leaving:
When which was over,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], we trooped to Ximending to ensure that I could buy myself a few pairs of cheap shoes. Actually, I was looking for a pair of cheap oxford boots. I still hadn't gotten within the ones which i saw in Gongguan (night market-ish stretch of shops opposite the nation's Taiwan University. Prefer Gongguan to Ximending actually as the crowd is not as young and high school-ish) and something of what I'd to penetrate Taipei were definitely a cheap pair of oxfords. It was hell easy getting cheap shoes there - at least for me it had been. Not so much for my mom - the shoes there,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the cheap, made-in-Taiwan ones, don't really are available in her size.
But they do in mine,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], more often than not. I bought two pairs in the shop where I bought my boots from,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a pair of black heels for court (I wore it to mass call and it was fucking comfortable regardless of the unavoidable new-shoes blisters) and a pair of grey heels for work. The guy who dealt with me knew that I was Singaporean which saddened me but oh well. And that i randomly bargained at a shop,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], then found myself randomly bargaining throughout Ximending. It usually worked and I got 20 to 30 Taiwanese dollars off the value.
Anyway these shoes were damn cheap. I think I purchased those two pairs for S possibly less,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. And so i bought 3 pairs of shoes in Ximending within the length of an hour or so. I was happy indeed.
Also purchased a pair of shorts for about S I totally love them,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
We wanted to go to the cafe that people went to two years ago but couldn't think it is so we went to a random one. My buddy ordered his usual pudding milk tea and requested large. When it came, I'd a good time laughing my ass off at him since it was HUGE:
The image doesn't actually capture how big it was. But believe me when I saw it was massive,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. It had been larger than just like a pint of beer.
And I was greatly amused after i saw that bloody Ah Zong Mian Xian was still being as crowded as ever:
Seriously, discuss Taipei never changing. I see this sight each year and take a picture from it every year. If I'm bothered to I might just place them all alongside eventually simply to possess a laugh.
Shopping at Ximending is great since the stuff is affordable and they're usually bargainable. There are also expensive boutiques,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], like some German brand that my mom recognised from architecture. I saw a t-shirt with a gorgeous design that cost 3,000-ish NT dollars that is like S That was just not even possible. That one t-shirt alone are more expensive than the money that my mom gave me to invest.
But as well as that, the Taiwan shops are really cheap, or being able to fit into free-sized clothes would help greatly. Having small feet would help too as shoes don't come bigger than size 8 generally. Thank heavens I am a size 8.
