New Milford High School featured on TV Schools show,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
A few painted their faces green and white, the school colors. And the new Green Wave mascot -- complete with oversize green and white sneakers -- made its debut.
"It's electrifying,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],'' said ,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a Student Council adviser.
"Everyone is so excited to be here,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],'' said senior , who was assigned to "energize'' the crowd and to speak about Names,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], an anti-bullying program offered the past eight years.
"This school's a lot of fun,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and this (TV show) is a cool way (for a senior) to say farewell,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," he said.
"This is our chance to announce and emphasize how much we care about our school,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],'' said sophomore . "This is not just a place where we are forced to go to get an education. We're a community and proud of our unity.''
Last year the "Cool Schools'' program featured 30 schools across Connecticut,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and New Milford High is the 10th school featured so far this year.
In addition to the live broadcast,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the program used pre-filmed segments about four special things at the school:
The McCarthy Observatory,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which provides hands-on opportunities for students from elementary through high school to learn about outer space; the Names anti-bullying program for sophomores; the graphic design course; and student activism,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], including the ' Stuff-A-Cruiser toy drive for Christmas and the 's book collection and giveaway.
"Finally, our little town of New Milford is being recognized,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],'' said parent as she watched students waving Green Wave towels in the bleachers,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], singing the school fight song,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and performing a "Cotton-Eyed Joe" line dance on the gym floor.
